A microSD card is one of the smallest flash memory cards on the market today. It is manufactured by SanDisk, which lends the SD to the name. The other part of the name comes from the tiny size of the card.

They are very small in size, therefore the name, MicroSD Card. These cards are used to store data in these electronic devices and this can be transferred to another device since the card is removable. When compared in size to a United States Nickel, the MicroSD Card is slightly smaller than the nickel.

Smaller than miniSD cards, and also based on the SD card format, microSD memory cards measure roughly 15mm x 11mm in size - about the size of a little finger fingernail. This makes them ideal for use in mobile phones. The microSD format was originally developed and sold by SanDisk as the TransFlash format before being adopted in a slightly modified form by the Secure Digital Card Association.
