A digital frame, when used without a computer, reads the photos from a memory card. Most picture frames can accept multiple memory card formats ranging from mini SD to compact flash. SD cards and Sony’s Memory Sticks are some of the most popular formats used. To view photos on a digital frame, insert the memory card into a slot on the side of the picture frame.

Digital frame models can be as simple as plug and play photo display only or they can come equipped with audio and video capabilities as well as any number of advanced features. If the frame does not have this picture function, you will need to be careful about the orientation of your photos. Nothing is more disconcerting than to have a picture show up in the slideshow sideways.
