A well-made Oriental rug is a hand made treasure. Sometimes years have gone into the making. Modern yarns are frequently made with chemical dyes leading to brighter colors. Older rugs were produced with vegetal dyes, which mature as they age. Generally speaking, you will pay more for antique rugs, but watch out for rugs that have been chemically aged.
